We have to start thinking of incorporating C2015 deliverables when we plan programmes for our students starting from 2010.....slowly but surely we will be able to achieve the outcomes...
In fact, some of the things that we have been doing are in line in helping us to achieve this outcome......we just need to sit down and think carefully on how we should aligned the objectives of our programmes to the outcome.....
Present: - We have C-kube (some rap?), palm cove... train of thought disrupted
Future: - Come up with school programmes with bottom-up initiatives that will encourage students to take up the responsibiilities yadda yadda - Organise and take up competitions for students to exercise their own inititive. - Use student leaders to illicit more responses and initiative from more students. - Create more assessments based on their student-initiated programmes as this allows a quantitative form of assessement that allows us to know whether we have reached the peak. - There must be attractive incentives (external or internal) that will draw out more student engagement.
Group 4(SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING) 1) - IPW - Learning Journeys - CIP(to a certain extent) - Learning Management System 2) - Alternative modes of assessment(formative) - Self assessment - More project-based work(assignemnts) - More platforms - Students involvement in the crafting of the learning experience(to a certain extent)
Self Directed Learner: - IPW - Subject related project work - Opportunities to allow students to have a chance at leadership positions. E.g during group work - TLLM: to guide them in learning rather than to spoonfeed them. To have more confidence and faith in the abilities of our students - Home based learning online using asknlearn - Engaging different strategies for different streams. Giving students incentives.
- Values for Breakfast - IPW - Student leadership - CCA leaders - HOT programme - Oratorical Contest - Work Attachment
New Programmes - student-initiated prgmes - students to be involved in planning of major school events - Students involvement in monthly level forums - inculcate competitiveness and recognitions
We currently involve the students in CIP, Learning journey, work attachment, iSHINE programme, values for breakfast, NE, VIP, twinning programme
We can include Overseas Homestay programme, culture immersion programme, student initiated programmes, all international students to participate in the Go East Trail(induction progamme/sec 1 orientation).
Current 1. NE events 2. NE values (Values First) 3. Values for Breakfast 4. Social Studies syllabus 5. CIP 6. Learning journey
Others 1. Comprehensive whole school approach LJ according to levels (E.g. Sec 1 : community-based, Sec 2 : nation building, Sec 3 : challenges and constraints faced by Singapore) 2. Invite more guest presenters to share their experience (e.g. war veterans) 3. To dedicate a corner for world affairs (students to take charge) 4. News of the Week (to integrate within EL syllabus)
Group 6 Self-directed Learner Student - resourceful and independent in their learning - irregardless of the teacher, put in own time and effort in learning - takes initiative in own learning (don't blame teacher) - thru' IPW project students' acquire various other skills, eg. presentation, confidence, care - good role model and examplary student leader
How to create this type of students? - give them time to reflect, eg. student reflection blog/book - post-result reflection - extend IPW beyond 3 days, incorporate self-directed learning -student reflection page to be included in the result slip.
PROGRAMMES IN PLACE 1) Recognition of students’ achievement and exhibition of values. 2) RP; self-reflective process 3) Non academic programmes for e.g. Time out program, Work-attachment programme, OBS 4) Academic programmes – IPW, Oratorical 5) CCA for e.g. C-cube 6) Platform for students’ presentation for e.g. Values For Breakfast
SUGGESTD PROGRAMMES 1) Toastmaster course 2) Debates on a regular basis. 3) Teachers-Students Dialogue; encourages students to be more involved in the running of schools’ programmes. 4) School-wide Outward Bound Course or maybe slightly less demanding courses.

ReplyDeleteTo produce self-directed learners we must think of ourselves as persons who teach the young how to fish....

ReplyDeleteI got no group so I am posting my own comment..
ReplyDeleteI think all our current programmes in place will enable us to achieve the C2015 outcomes.
We need to deliberately and purposefully refine and carry out our programmes to successfully achieve the C2015 outcomes.
